Exceptional Apple Cake with Carmel Sauce

1 stick unsalted butter at room temperature
1 c sugar
1 egg
1 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground cloves
2 large or 4 small tart apples, sliced thin
1/2 c chopped walnuts

1/4 c whipping cream
1/2 stick unsalted butter
1/4 c granulated sugar
1/4 c packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla

This is the BEST apple cake I have ever had! Heat the oven to 350 and butter a 9x9 or Swedish loaf pan. Cream the butter sugars and eggs. Mix in the dry ingredients and stir together. Add the apples and nuts and bake for 40-45 minutes. On the stove top heat the cream, butter and sugar until sugar is melted and then boil for one minute. Add vanilla and serve over the top.
